Collages are a fantastic art medium, as they work by combining multiple ideas, and artistic techniques, therefore often being more artistically rich than other mediums.

I’ve hand selected 40 collages that have a grungy/retro feel to them. All of these collages really inspired me with how creative and imaginative they are. By not being perfectly clean or organized, the seem to be a canvas on which the artist can simply pour all of their ideas.

Great round-up. Makes me wonder how many different ways pieces of work like this can be put together. I’d personally use a lot of hand-drawn/made elements, as well as digital photos, a lot of photoshop brushes and probably some custom vector shapes – my scanner would get a long workload from it, though.

This has inspired me for a tutorial, so keep an eye out for it on the web ;)

Awesome collection! Thanks for sharing. Some of them really remind me of Robert Rauschenberg’s work, which I also enjoy.

I love grunge web design, it’s such a hard technique to master though unless you get it exactly right. There’s a fine line between quality grunge effects and just messy.
