Week 8: Cachaca Wruck

Cachaca Wruck offers a series of beverages and has a firm history within the industry:

Cachaca Wruck.

In the space of 5 minutes I can identify some of the key strengths and weaknesses of this design, and sketch out a mockup.

STRENGTHS:

  • Prominent company logo and crest image
  • The basic layout structure is fine, but visually there are problems
  • Limited, concise navigation

WEAKNESSES:

  • The design feels very dated, and visually it’s unappealing
  • The black background doesn’t fit well with the overall design and distracts the users eye
  • The homepage doesn’t really offer any content, it needs some information to draw people further in!
  • I found it difficult to gauge what the site was about from the visuals, it needs to put more prominence on it’s products/services

My Redesign

As always, I was limited by the 30 minute time-frame, but I tried to improve upon several of Motel Cisne’s features, adding a few design flourishes and a clearer layout that promoted content over wasted space:

WHAT I TRIED TO DO:

  • Update the site, trying to make it feel less dated
  • Give the homepage great product placement, instantly selling what the company does.
  • Put some actual information on the homepage to tell me what the company is all about.
  • Integrate subtle design elements into the page (such as the background design) in order to make it seem more professional
  • Combined historic images of the old workers/founder in order to lend a personal touch to the site.

Comparing the 2 Designs:

Here is a quick comparison between the original design and my 30 minute redesign. Sure, my design could be more polished, but I believe that a lot of the basic elements have been improved upon, creating a more pleasant browsing experience.
